POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) - SUNY Potsdam, while making progress to close its multi-million-dollar structural deficit, is not where they originally thought they’d be.

SUNY Potsdam’s structural debt stands at $6.5 million. Not the $3 million officials reported last June, but better than the $9 million debt it had 2 years ago.

“Things change so rapidly nowadays that you can’t develop a plan and set it on autopilot. You have to continue to make adjustments,” said Brent Parker, SUNY Potsdam vice president for business affairs.

Parker says the higher amount is a result of many things, including fewer students living in on-campus dormitories, unforeseen equipment breakdowns, and wrong data for campus salaries.
