HARWOOD, N.D. — A Texas company plans to construct turnoffs for its artificial intelligence data center near Harwood, with plans to divert heavy machinery traffic away from the small eastern North Dakota city.

During a special meeting Monday, Sept. 22, the Cass County Commission unanimously approved a memorandum of agreement that allows Applied Digital to build bypasses, turn lanes and access approaches north and west of its planned $3 billion data center southeast of Harwood. Applied Digital will cover the costs to create the intersections on the county-owned roads, according to the memo.

The county must approve the design before construction begins and can inspect construction. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office will review the plans for public safety.
