MOORHEAD — The city of Moorhead received an offer to buy the current Moorhead Public Library building before it even hit the market.
During its meeting Monday, Sept. 22, the Moorhead City Council held a public hearing to consider the sale of the building and approved its sale to a Tampa, Fla.-based company for $1.4 million. The Moorhead Public Library opened in the building at 118 Fifth St. S. in 1962.
According to the council packet, the city received an unsolicited, market-rate offer for the property. The company plans to “significantly renovate the building” into a commercial retail, office or mixed use space.
No residents spoke during the public hearing. Council members did not discuss the sale before voting.
