FARGO — State and local law enforcement are reminding drivers of the dangers of careless and reckless driving.
Highway Patrol statistics from 2024 to 2025 show drivers are being pulled over for careless behavior at the same rate as 2024.
"We do see it every day," said Capt. Bryan Niewind of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Distracted driving, running red lights and, in more severe cases, DWI offenses are all examples of careless and reckless behavior that deputies continue to enforce against.
"Those are all decisions that we make before we drive or as we're driving. And if we can change some of those behaviors, we can make our roads safer," Niewind said.
While reckless driving is down slightly, deputies have seen more than 300 more cases of drivers failing to maintain their lane.
