Driving instructors in Western Australia could be forced to install cameras inside their vehicles in a bid to better protect vulnerable young students.

An ABC 7.30 investigation this month uncovered hundreds of allegations of young women being sexually harassed or assaulted by their driving instructors.

Many of those cases come down to the student's word against the instructor's because no Australian jurisdiction currently requires instructors to have dash cams.

South Australia is working towards requiring cameras and GPS tracking for all training vehicles, although the cameras have been opposed by some instructors.

The WA government has now announced it will soon consider whether to follow suit.
