COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A couple in Cocke County has a new home after Hurricane Helene came through the area almost a year ago now causing damage and destruction. 6 News talked with them about what it took to reach this milestone in the recovery process.
Van and Frances Ford live out on Hartford Road right off the Pigeon River and were home when flood water started rising.
"We were here. We knew that the water was coming up. We heard that it was going to be flooding. We didn't believe that it was going to get as high as they said it would,” said Francis.
The couple, along with many others on the road, were told to evacuate. When they got back to what once was their home, it was destroyed.
