LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - President Trump signed a proclamation to add a $100,000 fee to H-1B visa applications.
According to his proclamation, the fee will only apply to new applicants to the visa.
It will not apply to anyone with an existing visa.
“As far as the guidance that we’re receiving, and this is gonna be daily, that it’s only for initial applications, not renewals or anything else,” Heather Hadi, Lexington Immigration Attorney says.
In the proclamation, President Trump says the program ‘has been deliberately exploited to replace’ American workers.
The program is aimed at bringing highly skilled foreign workers to the U.S. in areas where U.S. workers are not available.
“It’s not, for example, really targeting blue collar workers. This is a lot more specialized, people with
