SKOWHEGAN, Maine (WABI) - New Balance officially opened the doors of its newly expanded factory in Skowhegan on Monday.
Employees, executives, and lawmakers gathered to celebrate the occasion.
“We make the coolest shoes on the planet, and we make them here in Central Maine,” said New Balance M.A.D.E Manufacturing Vice President Kevin McCoy.
While New Balance has had a presence in the state for decades, on Monday, they took it even further.
A $65 million project expanded the factory by 120,000 square-feet which will allow the company to add 200 jobs. The factory is also now capable of making over one million shoes a year, doubling what it was before the expansion.
