EDWARDSVILLE — A former assistant principal at Edwardsville High School was sentenced Monday to four years in prison on charges related to having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, authorities said.

Erin Hamilton-Foley, 53, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse as part of a deal with prosecutors, the Madison County state's attorney's office said.

Hamilton-Foley was charged in 2023 with two counts of criminal sexual assault accusing her of assaulting the boy.

It was important to the victim that the defendant admit wrongdoing as part of a felony conviction, the state's attorney's office said in a news release.
