Jimmy Kimmel is returning to TV after his highly criticised suspension. The late-night host has been reinstated after a brief suspension related to comments on the death of political activist Charlie Kirk that his bosses deemed "insensitive". Disney, which owns the ABC television network that broadcasts Jimmy Kimmel Live!, announced on Monday that the show would return to broadcast today. "Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country," the company stated, reported by the Guardian and other media outlets. "It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday." The controversy began last Monday, when Kimmel said during his monologue that "the MAGA (Make America Great Again) gang is desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it". The suspension drew praise from President Donald Trump, who also threatened that he may be "looking into" The View, another ABC talk show critical of his administration. It sparked condemnation from Hollywood stars, other talk show hosts, journalists, politicians from both sides, and the general public.
