WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Big E is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy with a series of events during Connecticut River Valley Navy Week through September 28.

The event aims to educate the public about the importance of the U.S. Navy and its role in national security, especially in areas like western Massachusetts, where there is no active naval presence.

"The goal of this programming is to educate and inform people," said Lieutenant Madison Kwok of the U.S. Navy’s Public Affairs team. "We want to show them what the Navy is and help people better understand why we are so important to national security."
