SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The Cathedral of Saint Joseph is nearly finished with a big project, 6 years in the making.

On Monday, crews began installing a brand-new pipe organ.

The organ was made by a company in Montreal, Canada.

It was built entirely from scratch, and it has taken crews over 30,000 hours to handmake the instrument.

“We’re at the end of a 6-year process of planning, searching for builders, contract work, visually planning, looking at carvings, looking at musical design, trips to Europe, studying historic instruments. So it’s a culmination of a lot of work and a lot of time from a lot of people,” said Cathedral of Saint Joseph Music Director, Jared Ostermann.
