QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- The NYPD is searching for a man following a late-night stabbing that left a man in critical condition on a No. 7 train on Sunday.

The incident happened around 11:34 p.m.

Police say a 25-year-old man was on a southbound train when an unidentified individual approached him from behind and stabbed him multiple times in the back.

The suspect fled to parts unknown.

EMS transported the victim to a local hospital.

Police describe the suspect as a man around 20-25 years old. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the word Champion in white lettering, grey sweatpants, and black sneakers.

The NYPD released the following photo of the suspect.
