BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Barren County Schools have received a major boost in the form of a $400,000 opioid recovery grant aimed at supporting families throughout the county, including those in the Caverna area.
The funds will allow the district to partner with The Resilience Factor and a program called Alternate Response to connect with families in need.
Shelly Thomas, youth services coordinator at Barren County High School, described the impact as “life changing,” both for the families and those who help them. Thomas shared that the initiative gives struggling families hope and helps them rebuild through community support and mentorship.
The grant will also fund tools like peddle carts and vision-impaired goggles to educate students about the effects of opioid misuse.
