Preseason expectations were high. That was largely because of the arrival of Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

The reality, however, is the Patriots don't look that different than recent seasons. It's a more entertaining product with Vrabel at the helm and second-year quarterback Drake Maye making strides . But the 1-2 Patriots continue to suffer maddening losses as a result of self-inflicted miscues like turnovers and penalties .
Vrabel hasn't turned New England into a team that consistently takes advantage of bad football . Not yet anyway.
