JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Several essential items are now tax-exempt in Missouri.
Missourians no longer have to pay local or state taxes on diapers, feminine hygiene products or adult incontinence products. The average family will save $30 to $60 a year per child on diapers, and the average woman will save $6 a year on pads and tampons.
According to the fiscal note on the new law, the state stands to lose over $200 million in general revenue under this new law. Missouri Department of Revenue Director Trish Vincent said the trade-off is worth it to give money back to families.
Gay Litteken, executive director at First Chance for Children in Columbia, Missouri, said she’s seen the need for diapers nearly double in the past year.
