The steelhead trout has quite the reputation around Erie, and it’s been bringing tourists here for decades.

Around this time each year, the fish make their trip out from Lake Erie and into the creeks to lay their eggs – An act that brings people from hundreds of miles away for a chance to reel one in.

"I've met people from Alaska, Texas, Florida, Michigan, all over the United States, I've met people,” said Caribou, a fisherman from Pittsburgh.

The steelhead trout can be caught all around the country, but Erie County offers several locations to hook one, with 13 creeks connecting to Lake Erie from state line to state line.

Compared to other fish, anglers said there’s something different about the steelhead trout, and it starts with the feeling you get when you get a bite.
