Craig Jones of Great Divide Outfitters posted photos Friday of a sampling of more than 70 dead fish he said were found along a reach of the Big Hole River that day.
Jones said the fish, including rainbow trout, whitefish and brown trout, were found in the stretch of river between the Jerry Creek and Greenwood Bottoms fishing access sites. Some dead fish were too small to net and count, he said, and eagles were busy retrieving carcasses.
Jones said the fish were found after an electrofishing crew from Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks floated the river for a fall survey.
“I came in the day after they’d electrofished and there were dead fish everywhere,” Jones said. “It’s just a bummer. It’s just one blow after another (for the river).”
He said it made no sense to electrofish after a fish-s
