AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to a disease affecting millions of Americans each year.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in the Panhandle, with one in eight men being diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime.
It is also almost exclusively asymptomatic, further stressing the importance of annual screenings.
The Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation found 10% of screenings at its facility were flagged as “high risk,” meaning a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) reading of four or greater.
