It won’t be raining cats and dogs in Blackfalds this weekend — but rubber ducks.
The second annual Rubber Duck Drop hosted by Lacombe and District Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) takes place Saturday at Sterling Industries Sports Park from noon to 3:30 p.m.
At 2:30 p.m., about 1,300 rubber ducks will be dropped from a helicopter onto a target. The duck that lands closest will win its owner half of the proceeds from sales. Ducks cost $10 each, with the rest of the funds going toward BBBS mentoring programs.
“It's just going to be a really big community initiative that families can come out [to], whether they've purchased a duck or they just want to come out to play some backyard games and watch those ducks fall from the sky,” said Brianna Berthiaume, BBBS executive director.
