WACO, Texas (KWTX) - An habitual criminal set to stand trial Monday on drugs and weapons charges pleaded guilty instead to one of the counts and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

As part of a plea agreement with five-time convicted felon Fermin Revelez, the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office dismissed felony possession of methamphetamine and continuous violence against the family charges in exchange for Revelez’s guilty plea to an unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon charge.

Judge Thomas West of Waco’s 19th State District Court sentenced Revelez, who faced up to life in prison, to 40 years on the gun charge.

Revelez’s attorney, Darren Obenoskey, declined comment on the case Monday.
