GRAND JUNCTION Colo. (KREX)- Great Outdoors Colorado, also known as GOCO, is awarding nearly $3 million to expand nature programs for kids and families in Delta, Montrose and Ouray counties.

In Delta County, a $1.4 million grant will strengthen a long-standing partnership known as the Nature Connection.

“I think, you know, the coolest thing is that Colorado is the only state where all of our lottery proceeds go to support the outdoors,” said Chris Aaby, senior program officer for Generation Wild at GOCO.

Founded in 2017, the Nature Connection already reaches thousands of students each year, offering activities ranging from backpacking and climbing to paid internships and trail crews. The new funding will expand programs, strengthen staffing and reach more Spanish-speaking families throu
