HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Former University of Southern Indiana men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl has announced his plan to retire from coaching.

In a 14-minute-long video posted to X, Pearl said, "It's time" with tears in his eyes. "I told myself that when I got to the point when I could not give it my all," he added. "Where I wasn't necessarily 100 percent, where I couldn't be the relentless competitor that you expected of me that it was going to be time."

Pearl started coaching about 43 years ago. During his career he made stops in Stanford, Iowa, Milwaukee, Tennessee and most recently Auburn. However, he landed his first head coaching job in the Tri-State at USI.

In his nine year run with the Screaming Eagles, he won a total of 231 games as head coach. Pearl led the team to Division I
