The three-time Paralympian won gold in the 200-meter individual medley over the weekend at the World Para Swimming Championships. It was her first victory in the event in 15 years, dating back to when she set the world record.
This time, her 2-year-old daughter, Charlotte, had a front-row seat.
“To do this with Charlotte at this stage, she’s now 2 ½, and have her understand what mom is doing … I got a video before I got ready to race, and it was like, ‘Go, mama, go. I’m so proud of you. You’re so brave,” Weggemann said. “For me, that’s just the reminder of why it is that I’m doing this at this stage.”
