KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knox County Commission voted Monday afternoon to approve a contract that would have the Knox County Regional Forensic Center assume the role of medical examiner for Blount County.

For this contract, the forensic center will provide Blount County with medical examiner services, medical death investigations and autopsy services. In return, Blount County will pay the center $711,055 annually. The contract is for up to five years.

This means that the center will conduct investigative services and perform medical examiner responsibilities like attending certain death scenes, conducting death investigations, testifying in cases, signing cremation permits, and providing data trends.
