MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Police Benevolent Association, West Virginia Department of Natural Resources and WVU police came together to hold a 'Behind the Badge' seminar on Monday, which welcomed more than 60 officers from across West Virginia to hear from numerous speakers and instructors on suicide prevention and PTSD awareness.
Randy Byrd, the director of foundation and media relations for the Southern States Police Benevolent Association, spoke with 12 News about the importance of having a space for officers to understand they are not alone.
“Were trying to reverse that trend, give these officers the tools and the vulnerability, give them the vulnerability, that it's okay to talk to others," Byrd said. "What you're seeing is not normal."
