MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A local football official has died after having a medical emergency during a Mobile County high school game.

73-year-old David Anders suffered from a brain bleed Thursday after falling backward during the Spanish Fort-vs.-Murphy game at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Anders was awake on the way to the hospital on Thursday. His family said he passed away Saturday from his injuries.

Anders is a former Prichard firefighter and a former youth football and baseball coach.

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch recalled playing football for Anders in Navco Park decades ago.

Burch said his death is a great loss for the community.
