The DeKalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit has made significant strides since its formation in August. This new unit emerged from the merger of the DeKalb County Narcotics Unit and the Criminal Investigation Unit.

The team, consisting of seven investigators and four narcotics investigators, has already closed several cases. They have charged an individual connected to an overdose death and made more than 20 drug-related arrests.

The unit has seized several pounds of illegal substances, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana, and kratom. This success reflects the enhanced resources and flexibility provided by the merger.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden emphasized the positive impact of the merger in a statement:
