BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) - Coffee prices are climbing, and both weather and tariffs are playing a role.
Brazil, one of the world’s largest coffee producers, has seen U.S.-imposed 50% tariff this year. That is causing prices to rise here, according to the International Coffee Organization.
A average price for a pound of coffee is $8.41, up from $6.31 a year ago, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Here in the Quad Cities, Dunn Bros Coffee owner Gina Bettini said her shop isn’t making price changes yet. The shop is under a contract with one year remaining.
“We have time to prepare for what’s ahead,” Bettini said. “At the end of the day, no one should worry about a shortage of coffee. We’ll adapt as best we can.”
Bettini recently saw the challenges firsthand.
