COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s Operation Keep Us Safe enforcement initiative wrapped up on September 19 with thousands of drivers cited for violating the state’s Move Over and Hands-Free laws.

The five-day operation, launched by the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) on September 15, was designed to improve safety for law enforcement officers, first responders, highway workers, and tow truck drivers operating along roadways. The State Transport Police and multiple county and municipal agencies also took part in the effort.

According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, officers issued a total of 1,815 citations between September 15 and 19. Of those, 1,766 came from the Highway Patrol and 49 from the State Transport Police. Reporting agencies across the state recorded
