MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris has signed a resolution on Monday removing the New Chicago neighborhood as a potential site for a new jail campus.

The announcement was made on Mayor Harris's Facebook, where he said he was proud to sign the document.

Harris said communities prefer investments in education, opportunities for young people, and progress on blight over the construction of jails.

City and county leaders are now working on a possible new location for a jail complex, but no other sites have been mentioned.
