GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Today, the Green Bay Area Public School District celebrated the addition to its Head Start Learning Center with a ribbon cutting at 1150 Bellevue Street.

Head Start is a federally funded program that helps break the cycle of poverty by providing preschool education to children from low-income families. The building, which previously served as a school and later as part of the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, has been remodeled to serve preschoolers once again.

“We remodeled each of the classrooms, taking out those cubicles that looked like office space. We added a bathroom to every classroom, which at ages 3, 4, and 5 is a need. We added a playground that is developmentally appropriate and upgraded the gym,” said Patty Mevis, Head Start Learning Center principa
