FARGO — The board that oversees the North Dakota University System will consider a policy change stating presidential vacancies at colleges and universities may be filled without doing a search.

The amendment to be voted on by the State Board of Higher Education clarifies that the board can choose to conduct a search or fill such a vacancy without one.

Current policy states when a presidential position opens, the chancellor appoints a search committee to fill the post, according to board documents.

The board will meet to discuss this and other matters Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Minot State University.
