SPARTANBURG, S.C. —
Spartanburg City Council has voted to move the clock tower after receiving a recommendation from city staff members to take it down last month.
Council voted 4-2 during their Monday night meeting to move the clock tower, which has been standing at its current location at Morgan Square since 1989.
Prior to the vote, some people in downtown asked the city to keep the tower standing.
"It's always the same to me. It's there. It's persistent. It doesn't go anywhere," Spartanburg County resident Teresa Starnes said. "It doesn't move. You always see it, and it's almost like it smiles at you."
