The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department responded to a “five-alarm” emergency at a Royal Street hotel that investigators believe was caused by an equally fiery condiment that “exploded” in a package. Half a dozen engines responded to the false alarm.

Blake Brown, the spokesman for the Mobile Police Department, told reporters gathered across the street from the Hampton Inn & Suites at around 6:30 Monday night the hotel’s receptionists called 911 after a woman told them the package she recently pulled out of an Amazon locker had “exploded” onto the lobby floor.
