STATEWIDE -- Students and faculty at Eastern Maine Community College are mourning the loss of their beloved president, Liz Russell.

Liz Russell led the school for more than three decades.

A post by the school on Facebook said Russell was "more than our president. She was a mentor, a colleague, and a friend whose warmth, humor, and compassion touched every corner of our campus. Whether it was walking a student to their class or clearing a sidewalk after a snowstorm, Liz got it done."

Russell served first in their admissions department, then as dean, vice president, and finally president.

The post went on to say, "Thank you, Liz. You will always be part of EMCC."
