BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Unity in Kern County. That’s how elected officials feel after the passage of the California Energy Affordability Act or SB 237. The bill would allow Kern County to open up to 2,000 oil drill permits each year for the next 10 years.

“Thank you of course Gov. Newsom for championing responsible oil drilling here in Kern County," said County Supervisor Laticia Perez during Monday's press conference. "We're standing here together as one Kern County."

“Real work doesn’t happen in front of cameras, it happens behind the scenes, by listening, by moving and acting," Sen. Melissa Hurtado (D-Bakersfield) said. "We worked a lot behind the scenes to make sure that this [bill] moved forward.”
