JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - Brown water complaints have increased across Jackson, and many residents are frustrated.
According to JXN Water, the discoloration was caused by elevated levels of manganese, which is a naturally occurring element in the Barnett Reservoir. During periods of extreme heat, officials said manganese can leach into the system event after treatment, which has resulted in brown water in some neighborhoods.
"Although it is brown, it is a naturally occurring thing, and we are treating for it to make sure that you don't experience that esthetic displeasure of seeing brown water. But also, it is safe. The EPA has guidelines around it. As of right now, we are meeting all state and federal regulations when it comes to water quality," said Aisha Carson. Lead Communications Offi
