SAN ANTONIO — Former SAPD Officer James Brennand is no longer facing an attempted murder charge over an incident where he shot a teenager while on duty.
The former officer is at the center of a police use-of-force case going to trial this year. He is facing charges for shooting Erik Cantu in a McDonald's parking lot in October of 2022.
Cantu was hit and taken to the hospital in critical condition. He spent several weeks in the hospital recovering. He was initially charged in the incident, but body cam video later showed what had transpired. The charges against Cantu were dropped.
Thursday, Bexar County court offiicials said Brennand is no longer facing the attempted murder charge. The indictment was refiled last week and he is still currently charged with aggravated assault by a publi
