FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating an officer-involved stabbing in an area in northwest Fort Wayne.

According to a press release, police were dispatched at 5:59 p.m. to the area of 2100 Saint Mary's Avenue for a domestic disturbance. During the investigation, an argument occurred between an individual and a Fort Wayne Police officer.

At 6:07 p.m. officer called for assistance, reporting that an officer had been stabbed. As a result of the threat, officers shot their firearms.

The injured officer fired their weapon, shooting the suspect. Emergency medical teams were called to the scene to treat the injured officer and suspect.

The officer was transported to a hospital in serious condition.
