FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A Fort Wayne police officer was wounded in a stabbing Monday evening while responding to a reported domestic disturbance.

Officers responded to the report in the 2100 block of St. Marys Avenue just before 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22. According to the Fort Wayne Police Department , while officers were investigating the disturbance, an altercation broke out between an individual and one of the officers.

Minutes later, officers requested immediate medical attention, reporting the officer had been stabbed. The department said officers discharged their firearms in response to the threat, injuring the suspect.

The wounded officer was taken to an area hospital in serious condition, FWPD Chief Scott Caudill told WPTA-TV . The condition of the suspect is not known at this time.
