GRAND FORKS – At the Grand Forks School Board meeting on Monday, the board approved the fiscal year 2025-2026 district budget and tax levy. District Business Manager Brandon Baumbach presented board members with the final budget, which showed a $4.4 million spending deficit.
Board members said a combination of federal funding cuts, a decrease of expected per-pupil payment from the state and the state-mandated 3% cap on property taxes all negatively impacted the budget balance.
“These all individually have their bases in public policy, but it has made a perfect storm of sorts,” School Board President David Berger said. “So these decisions have impacts.”
