SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) - A pitch is officially on the table for the City of Springfield to have a new courthouse. If approved by the state, five buildings will be demolished downtown.
Local developers are looking put the courthouse at the corner of Chestnut and Lyman Streets. Though two of the five buildings are nationally recognized as historic, the city council committee chair for economic development, Sean Curran, said this location would be a game-changer for Springfield.
He explained the Lyman Street location is close to public transportation, far away enough from I-91, and would revitalize surrounding neighborhoods.
