SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Monday night, the Sioux City Community School board voted to expel two of its students.

The school board held two special meetings, Monday afternoon. The board went into closed session during each of those meetings before returning to open session to vote to expel the students.

We don’t know specifics of each case. But, the school district did release a statement clarifying the reasons students may be expelled.

A school district spokesperson said the decision to expel a student is only recommended in the most, quote “egregious of situations”. That includes “situations when an assault is premeditated, a weapon is involved or a defenseless individual is harmed.”

Superintendent Dr. Juan Córdova said the decision to expel a student is a last resort.
