SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Springfield city leaders are advocating for a new courthouse to be built downtown at the intersection of Lyman and Chestnut Streets, as the deadline for proposals approaches on October 16.
City Councilor Sean Curran is leading the effort to promote the downtown site, arguing that the investment in the new courthouse would be significant for Springfield's development.
"It's an unbelievable proposal. I think it's a game changer for Springfield," said Sean Curran, Springfield City Councilor and Chair of the Economic Development Committee. "As you can see, these buildings will be knocked to the ground. They are not useful buildings. Once you have that much demolition to build a $5-600 million courthouse. It's going to be unbelievable and fantastic for the city."
