Police in Fruitland Park say a student driving home from a football game was shot at Friday night.

It happened at US 27/441 and Register Road around 10:40 at night.

"I'm very thankful that we're not working a homicide times three. It could have very easily went the other way," said Fruitland Park police Chief Henry Rains.

Rains said two students and one of their younger siblings were driving home from a football game when they said someone started shooting at them from another car.

"According to the victims, it was not provoked," Rains said. "This vehicle just pulled up next to them and just started unloading rounds into their vehicle."

The girl driving the car was hurt.

"She was grazed by a ricochet," he said.
