LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Four of five Bullitt County school board members voted to realign the district, basing part of their decision on low enrollment.

WAVE has previously covered the plans to close Nichols Elementary. Superintendent Jesse Bacon says 10 years ago the school had 179 students, and it’s now down to 81.

Bacon said at a board meeting Monday night that schools must have equal capacity across the district and that re-balancing will help make sure every student has as much access to available resources as possible.

Even with these outlines, the community was split on if these changes should happen and if Nichols Elementary should close.
