In 2020, in the midst of the COVID pandemic, Sherri White-Williamson took a bold step toward realizing a dream. She started the Environmental Justice Community Action Network, known as EJCAN, in Clinton to help empower the Sampson County community and surrounding areas to fight against environmental threats. On Saturday night, about 225 people gathered to help her celebrate the organization’s fifth anniversary and also to welcome EJCAN to its new facility, the former National Guard Armory, at 200 Northeast Blvd.
“It’s phenomenal to see the work, the effort, but most importantly the vision of Sherri to make the offer for this building; to manifest this in about six months’ time,” said master of ceremonies for Saturday’s banquet, Jeffrey Robbins.
