US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The meeting comes amid tensions over the H-1B visa fee hike, which President Donald Trump recently raised to USD 100,000 for new applications, impacting India’s tech sector. It also follows the US imposing a 50% tariff on Indian goods over New Delhi’s purchase of Russian oil.

Rubio stated in a post on social media platform X that the meeting focused on various aspects of the bilateral partnership aimed at “enhancing prosperity for both nations.”
