New Delhi: Kolkata has been battered by relentless rainfall since Monday night, leaving large parts of the city waterlogged and disrupting daily life. At least five people have died in rain-related incidents.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore issued a red alert across south Bengal after torrential showers intensified overnight, peaking on Tuesday morning. Several districts, including Kolkata, recorded heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph.

Authorities said the deaths occurred due to electrocution in waterlogged areas. Power utility CESC was directed to cut electricity supply in specific localities to prevent further accidents.
